The problem

During the preparation of and gravel washing water loaded with solids is produced.
These solids are in particular silt particles which sediment very badly because of their low particle height. Very high dwell-times for the purification of the washing water result from this fact. Moreover the solids can be concentrated on drier values of 5 % at most in static thickeners which are often used.
If the washing water is treated in clearing basins, the floor space required is very large.
In both cases a bulk of the valuable washing water is fixed to the sludge nd is no longer available for the washing process.

The solution

The KS-process of Herbst Umwelttechnik GmbH provides the solution. By means of this process the washing water is conditioned by using a dual flocculation at first. Here two different flocculants are used which lead because of their characteristics to the fact that the silt particles agglomerate and so discharge the bounded capillary water by what a solid flakes structure is developed. Through this it is possible that the washing water which is high in solids can be supplied to a mechanical drainage installation. Secondly the conditioned water which contains turbidities is supplied to a band-pass filter.
